Ingredients

Scale
  • For the fritters:
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • ¼ cup granulated sugar
    • 2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • 2 large eggs
    • ¾ cup whole milk
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
    • 1 ½ cups apples, peeled and diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
    • Vegetable oil, for frying

    For the vanilla glaze:

    • 1 cup powdered sugar
    • 2 tablespoons milk
    • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir in the melted butter.
  • Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.
  • Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat to 350°F (175°C).
  • Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying in batches. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the glaze.
  • Drizzle the glaze over the warm fritters and serve immediately.

Notes

Choosing the Best Apples

  • For a tart contrast, use Granny Smith apples.
  • For a sweeter fritter, go with Honeycrisp or Fuji apples.

Frying Tips for Perfect Texture

  • Keep oil at 350°F (175°C) for crispy, evenly cooked fritters.
  • Avoid overcrowding the pan to maintain the right frying temperature.
  • Drain on paper towels to prevent excess oil absorption.

Customizing the Recipe

  • Swap the vanilla glaze for caramel sauce or maple drizzle.
  • Add chopped pecans or walnuts for a crunchy twist.
  • Try baking or air-frying for a lighter version.

Storage & Reheating

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 24 hours.
  • Reheat in an oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-7 minutes or an air fryer for 3-4 minutes to restore crispiness.
