How to Make Caramel Apple Pie Bars with Crumb Topping

A comforting dessert made with a buttery crust, spiced apple filling, and a sweet-salty caramel finish.

  • 2 ½ cups (315 g) all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup (150 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 6 cups (750 g) apples, sliced
  • ⅔ cup (135 g) brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons (15 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • ½ cup (113 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (240 g) caramel sauce
  • ½ teaspoon flaky sea salt

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper.
  • Mix flour, sugar, salt, and cold butter to form crumbs; press into pan and bake 15 minutes.
  • Toss apples with brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  • Spread apples over crust; top with crumble made from flour, brown sugar, and melted butter.
  • Bake 40–45 minutes until golden and tender. Cool completely.
  • Drizzle with caramel sauce and sprinkle with flaky salt before slicing.

Notes

Allow bars to cool fully before cutting for best texture and presentation.
