These Philly Steak Cheese Fries are the ultimate indulgent comfort food, combining the juicy, savory flavors of a Philly cheesesteak with crispy, golden waffle fries and gooey white American cheese.
450g ribeye steak or sirloin, very thinly sliced
1 teaspoon garlic salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
8–10 slices white American cheese
567g (1¼ lbs) bag frozen waffle-cut fries
1 tablespoon olive oil
Remove steak from the fridge and let it rest for 10 minutes for easier slicing.
Thinly slice the steak against the grain.
Slice the green bell pepper and onion.
Heat an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat.
Add 1 tablespoon olive oil.
Once hot, add thinly sliced steak.
Season with 1 tsp garlic salt and ½ tsp ground black pepper.
Sauté for 3–4 minutes, stirring until browned.
Remove steak from skillet and set aside.
Leave about 1 tablespoon of steak juices in the skillet.
Add sliced bell pepper and onion.
Cook for 4–5 minutes until tender but still a bit crisp.
Remove and set aside with the steak.
Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F).
Spread frozen waffle fries (567g) in a single layer in the same skillet or on a baking sheet.
Bake for 15–18 minutes, flipping halfway through for even crispiness.
Once fries are golden, remove from oven.
Layer 4 slices of white American cheese over the fries.
Evenly add the cooked steak and vegetables on top.
Finish with 4–6 more slices of cheese, covering most of the toppings.
Place the skillet or baking sheet back into the oven.
Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until cheese is melted, bubbly, and golden.
Optional: Broil for 1–2 minutes for crispier top (watch closely!).
Let cool for 1–2 minutes.
Serve directly in skillet or transfer to a serving platter.
Garnish with fresh parsley, green onions, or jalapeño slices if desired.
Steak Tips: For paper-thin slices, freeze the steak for 15 minutes before slicing.
Cheese Swap: Substitute provolone, cheddar, or mozzarella if desired.
Fries Hack: Air fry waffle fries for extra crispiness.
Make Ahead: Cook steak and veggies a day ahead and store separately.
Gluten-Free Option: Use gluten-free waffle fries and double-check seasoning labels.
