These Halloween Bat Brownies are the perfect spooky-sweet treat for your Halloween parties or classroom events. Made with simple ingredients like box brownie mix, chocolate sandwich cookies, and candy eyes, they’re easy enough for kids to help decorate.
Brownies
1 box of brownie mix (approx. 18.4 oz)
2 large eggs (or as directed by the mix)
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup water
Decorations
12 chocolate sandwich cookies (like Oreos), separated and halved
24 candy eyes
1/4 cup melted chocolate chips or chocolate frosting (used as “glue”)
Preheat oven to temperature specified on the brownie mix box (typically 325°F or 350°F).
Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, combine the brownie mix, eggs, oil, and water. Stir until smooth.
Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
Bake according to the package instructions, usually 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Remove from oven and allow brownies to cool completely in the pan (at least 30–45 minutes).
Once cooled, use a sharp knife or circular cookie cutter to cut the brownies into either squares or circles, depending on the look you want.
Carefully twist each sandwich cookie to separate into halves.
Gently break each cookie half into two even “wings” by hand or with a small serrated knife.
Insert one cookie wing into each side of the brownie, gently pressing to secure.
Use a spoon, toothpick, or piping bag to apply a small dab of melted chocolate or frosting on the top of each brownie.
Attach two candy eyes to each brownie using the chocolate “glue.”
Place the brownies in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes to allow the decorations to set.
Once firm, serve immediately or store in an airtight container.
Make sure the brownies are completely cool before cutting to avoid crumbling.
Use a plastic knife or a knife coated in cooking spray for cleaner cuts.
If you want mini bat brownies, use a mini muffin tin or a 9×9 pan and reduce baking time.
Candy eyes are available at most baking supply stores or online during Halloween season.
For gluten-free option, simply use a gluten-free brownie mix.
Vegan substitutions can include flax eggs and dairy-free frosting.
