Use about ΒΌ cup cheese per bun or adjust to your liking.

Remove from the oven and let cool for 2 minutes. Serve open-faced or top with the other half of the bun for a full sandwich.

Notes

  • Make it spicy: Add red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce.

  • Make it vegetarian: Use plant-based ground meat and omit pepperoni or turkey bacon.

  • Make ahead: Prepare the beef mixture in advance and refrigerate for up to 3 days.

  • Freeze for later: Assemble and freeze before baking. When ready to eat, bake straight from frozen at 375Β°F for 20–25 minutes.

  • Add crunch: Top with a few crushed garlic croutons before baking for extra texture.
