Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 slices turkey bacon, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • pounds baby potatoes, halved or quartered
  • 1½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1½ cups chicken broth
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley (optional for garnish)

Instructions

Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped turkey bacon and cook until crispy. Remove and set aside, leaving a bit of the drippings in the pan.

Add olive oil to the same skillet and sauté diced onions until soft. Add garlic and cook for about 30 seconds.

Add ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess grease if necessary.

Stir in the potatoes, salt, pepper, smoked paprika, and Italian seasoning. Mix well to coat the potatoes in the seasoning.

Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender.

Once potatoes are tender, stir in the heavy cream and cooked turkey bacon. Simmer for another 5 minutes uncovered, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly.

Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top. Cover the skillet for a few minutes to melt the cheese.

Garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Cut potatoes into even sizes for uniform cooking.

  • If using a non-stick skillet, adjust heat carefully to avoid scorching cream.

  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for heat.

  • For added green, stir in spinach or kale at the end of cooking.

  • To stretch the recipe further, serve over rice or pasta.

  • Avoid over-stirring once the cream is added to prevent breaking the sauce.

  • Double the recipe and freeze half for future meals.

  • Use low-sodium broth if watching salt intake.

  • Let the cheese sit covered for a few minutes before serving—it melts better.

  • Always taste before serving and adjust seasoning as needed.
