Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup caramel sauce (plus extra for drizzling)
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar (optional, for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
  3. Cook the apples for about 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they soften and the mixture becomes syrupy. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut into 6 equal rectangles.
  5. Spoon a portion of the apple mixture onto one half of each rectangle, leaving a border around the edges. Drizzle a small amount of caramel sauce over the apples.
  6. Fold the other half of the pastry over the apples to form a pocket. Press edges with a fork to seal.
  7. Beat the egg and brush it over the tops of the pastries for a golden finish.
  8. Place the pastries on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
  9. Let cool slightly, then drizzle with extra caramel sauce and dust with powdered sugar if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For the flakiest results, keep your puff pastry cold until just before baking.

  • Be careful not to overfill—too much filling can cause the pastries to burst open in the oven.

  • Use a sharp knife to cut slits in the top of each pastry to allow steam to escape.

  • Experiment with variations like nuts, pears, or cream cheese to keep the recipe exciting.

  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of salted caramel for extra indulgence.
